The Effect of (Moringa oleifera lam) Leaf Ethanol Extract Ointment on Macroscopic Incision Wound Healing Process in White Rats (Rattus norvegicus)

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Moringa oleifera lam leaf ethanol extract ointment in accelerating incision wound healing in rats, based on the potential of the plant's bioactive compounds.Methods: Thirty male rats (Rattus norvegicus) were divided into five groups: negative control, positive control (10% Povidone-iodine), and treatment groups receiving ointment at concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 10%. Wound length and closure duration were observed macroscopically over 14 days. Results: The 2.5% ointment group demonstrated the fastest healing with complete wound closure on day 14, surpassing the 5% concentration and positive control groups. Conversely, the 10% concentration exhibited a slower healing rate compared to lower doses. Discussion: Optimal effectiveness at lower concentrations suggests that secondary metabolites functioned within physiological limits supporting proliferation. In contrast, higher concentrations inhibited tissue regeneration due to potential irritation or an inverted dose-response phenomenon. Conclusion: The 2.5% Moringa oleifera ethanol extract ointment is the most effective formulation for accelerating incision wound healing macroscopically.
