Abstract

Introduction: Aging is a complex and multifactorial biological process that progresses with advancing age. Over the past few years, phytotherapeutic approaches have gained increasing attention as strategies to slow down aging. Among the natural polyphenols widely utilized in such therapies is Resveratrol (RES). This review aims to identify the effectiveness of RES as a phytotherapeutic intervention in Anti-Aging (AA) treatment.

Method: This literature review involved six major articles published between 2015 and 2025. The search was reviewed using the PICOT approach, involving databases on PubMed Central, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar, which were selected using the PRISMA method. It was reviewed using inclusion criteria using RES as the main phytotherapy, human subjects, with AA treatment measurements.

Discussion: RES has been shown to play a significant role in enhancing mitochondrial function, exerting notable antioxidant activity, and demonstrating anti-inflammatory effects. Its effectiveness is strongly influenced by dosage, target population characteristics, and intervention duration, with the most consistent findings observed in postmenopausal women and individuals with mild to moderate metabolic disturbances. Overall, RES is considered safe for consumption and can be combined with other antioxidants to optimize its benefits.
Conclusion: RES possesses strong potential as an AA agent, demonstrating consistent effects across various clinical models, and may be considered a promising phytotherapeutic candidate for AA treatment.
