The Relationship Between Waist Circumference and Random Blood Sugar Levels in Adults at Tejakula I Community Health Center

Introduction: Central obesity contributes to insulin resistance and elevated blood sugar levels, leading to type 2 diabetes mellitus. Waist circumference serves as a simple indicator of visceral fat. The increasing prevalence of central obesity and diabetes in the Tejakula I Community Health Center area motivated this study to examine the relationship between waist circumference and blood sugar levels in adults.
Methods: This analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted at Tejakula I Community Health Center from July to August 2025. A total of 127 adults aged 19–59 years were selected using consecutive sampling. Waist circumference was measured with a tape, and fasting blood sugar was assessed using a GCU device. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation test.
Results: The correlation coefficient (r = 0.282) showed a positive weak relationship between waist circumference and fasting blood sugar levels, with a significance value of p = 0.001 (p < 0.05).
Discussion: An increase in waist circumference is associated with a higher risk of hyperglycemia, consistent with previous research linking central obesity to impaired glucose regulation.
